kanye west

You probably peeped that I put his “old name” and not Ye. Its because idk who this new nigga is lmao. Nevertheless, Kanye’s contributions to the world will impact generations to come. Personified, he’s the saying “There’s a thin line between genius and insanity.” His come to success story is so unique. The nigga made being a momma’s boy cool! You have to respect it. The quirks. The ego. The fashion. The samples! The idiosyncrasies of his come up will serve as a landmark to future rap-ologists, on the quest to identify the pinnacle of the ushering of the current new age in hip hop. He didn’t fully catch my attention until the Watch the Throne era came along and he started to make his mark in fashion— thickening the consistency of his stardom. Sonically speaking, his most valuable property is production. The beat selection on his projects are always vast but cohesive, something I kept in mind when it came time to formulate my own track list. The distinction between the subject matter of his recordings earlier on & his counterparts’ that would’ve been a hindrance to any one else, was his advantage. He strategically blurred the lines between the “commercial” & “woke” rapper while adding alternative elements to his sound. The Life of Pablo is so experimental, I love it. “I just wanna feel liberated I, I, I.” (Father Stretch My Hands Pt.1) is just one of many mantras encompassing the project. We owe him a lot of credit for some of rap’s sub-genres we enjoy today (i.e., Travis Scott). He took the melodic shit and ran w/ it. As I add the finishing touches to the tape, I’m starting to think more about how I wanna present my content to the world and he’s someone I look to for inspiration in that sector of things. The rollouts for his projects are original and attention grabbing every time. I know I’m taking a chance with this site and its content— notably considering the shortening of attention spans currently plaguing the community lol. But who cares? Kanye never confined himself to one target market and rarely did things to “pacify” the collective. My soul tribe’ll find me sooner or later.
